Issue 04 - 4.5 Billion Years

You're alive for 80 years.

Now, Not Later - Issue 04

4.5 Billion Years

Perspective is one of the most powerful exercises our brain can practice.

And todays letter is going to do a full cardio workout with perspective.

It’s 5:22am when I currently write this, and this is purely written out of a deep rabbit hole of thoughts I was having this morning.

We are alive for about 80 years.

The story of Jesus is 2,000 years old.

A story we humans naturally presume to be ANCIENT. The story of Jesus feels relatively close to dinosaurs being alive it feels so old.

Dinosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago. That is 65,000,000.

The earth is 4.5 billion years old. That is 4,500,000,000.

Actually ponder on this for a few minutes.

Jesus was alive 2,000 years ago.

Dinosaurs we’re alive 65 million years ago.

Now the earth is 4.5 BILLION…… BILLION years old.

Dinosaurs 65 million, the Earth 4.5 BILLION.

And Jesus was only 2,000 years ago??

We only live 80 years, but somehow now Jesus feels like he was alive yesterday?

Does this make anyone else think WTF?

The human mind skews the reference of time in a way that is hard to understand.

We can’t even comprehend what happened on Earth between these time horizons.

I’m 29 years old, and A LOT has happened in my lifetime.

But between Jesus and Dinosaurs, was 64 million, 998 thousand years…..

Now that we are getting a decent grip at comprehending time reference, think about how the Earth has been alive and spinning for 4.5 billion years.

This Earth, full of life, color, sounds, experiences, sunshine and all. It has been spinning and evolving for 4.5 billion years.

And every human you ever encounter in your life, shares this planet with you for a 80 year time horizon if your lucky.

No human is a stranger. They share the same planet with you, the same resources, the same history, and the same relative amount of time alive.

This perspective makes the world feel small, and our time here short.

We are a mere blip in time. A tiny flicker of a light.

This is a side bar perspective, but-

Elon Musk, Michael Jordan, Taylor Swift, WHOEVER you deem to be important;

they are currently alive and sharing the same 80 years of time on earth as you.

These people are influential, but not immortal.

Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Martin Luther King Jr., Walt Disney, Ghandi, and 100’s of others who changed the course of history were alive within the past 100 years.

People who you’d think are ancient, were a mere few years ahead of us.

Anyway, its 5:40 in the morning now and my thoughts are running wild on the concept of time, whats new!

All in all, you are in a BLIP of time. Don’t waste it. Try, & try hard at everything.

Enjoy the small moments with the people you share this time with. Every experience matters, every moment matters.

Give life your all. Your honest everything, not half-assed sitting around letting time pass you by.

This is your sign to dig your feet in and get going, go get shit done while you still can.
